|Sapphire carrier discs that can be manufactured to customer specification for the thin film processing of GaAs and other semiconductor devices are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.
Meller Sapphire Wafer Carriers feature flatness and parallelism to 0.005mm and can be custom perforated with patterns for vacuum hold-down or delamination. Designed for GaAs processing involving the critical lapping and internal grinding of devices, these highly durable sapphire wafer carriers are chip-, chemical- and scratch-resistant and can withstand repeated use.
Superior to quartz and other materials, Meller Sapphire Wafer Carriers are second only to diamond in hardness (9 Moh). They are available in sizes from 2” to 6” dia. with flats and laser markings, and their superior mechanical strength due to off-axis crystal growth permits the custom fabrication of wafer carriers as thin as 0.018”.
