|Custom sapphire optics that can be precisely fabricated for integration into a wide range of medical instruments and devices such as blood gas monitors are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.
Meller Sapphire Optics for medical instruments such as oximeters can be manufactured to specifications as windows, flat and stepped, concave or convex, and round or square, with holes, various edges and thicknesses. Transmitting from the UV through 4.7 Ám, they transmit up to 85% uncoated and can be coated for up to >99% transmission, depending upon thickness.
Suitable for glass-to-metal sealing or brazing into Kovar« sleeves for welding to stainless steel, Meller Sapphire Optics feature Moh 9 hardness, making them extremely durable and chemically inert. They exhibit flatness to 1/10th wave, parallelism to 2 arc-sec., and surface finishes to <0.5 nm. Other applications include ER:YAG, HO:YAG, and Alexandrite laser systems.
