|Highly durable, custom manufactured sapphire waveplates that are ideally suited for use in mission-critical visible and IR polarization control components are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.
Meller Sapphire Waveplates feature 0.25 µm to 4.7 µm transmission, which is >98% when AR coated on both sides; with Moh 9 hardness and superior chemical resistance than quartz or mica. Custom manufactured in sizes from 10 mm to 30 mm in either “A” or “M” plane configurations, these sapphire waveplates are hard, durable and extend the wavelength beyond quartz or mica.
Providing λ/4 and λ/2 retardation with tolerance dependent on wavelength: 0.632 µm >λ/300, 1.06 µm λ/400, and 2.94 µm >λ/1000, Meller Sapphire Waveplates exhibit transmitted wavefront of λ/10 @632 nm, 10-5 scratch-dig surface quality per MIL-O-13830A, and ≤1 arc/sec. parallelism.
