|12/16/2004||Sapphire Optical Domes Protect Electronics in Harsh Environments|
Custom fabricated sapphire optical domes for protecting sensitive guidance systems, sensors, and other electronics subjected to harsh environments are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.
Meller Sapphire Optical Domes feature 160º included angles that protect and extend the viewing angle of electronic detectors and sensors which are exposed to fast moving sand, dirt, and water. Custom fabricated in sizes from ½” to 6” O.D., they can transmit from the UV to IR and provide up to 85% transmission uncoated and <.25% reflection per surface with A/R coatings.
Providing a clear protective cover that is second only to diamond in terms of hardness, Meller Sapphire Optical Domes exhibit Moh 9 surface hardness. These abrasion-resistant optics have surface finishes to 20-10 scratch-dig per MIL-PRF-13830, <25 µm wall thickness variation, and <1 fringe/in. surface accuracy measured at 633 nm. Sapphire windows and lenses are also offered.
Meller Sapphire Optical Domes are priced from $395.00 ea., depending upon part configuration and quantity. Literature and price quotations are available on request.
